Iowans are still trying to replace derecho-damaged trees from 2020. Ellie Jones with the Department of Natural Resources said overall, the Hawkeye State lost about seven million trees and officials haven't come close to planting that number. Local governments and non-profit groups can apply for grants for new trees. Applicants must be from the 27 counties covered under the 2020 derecho disaster proclamation.
