Latin, current pop music, and Motown are all part of a Big Band performance Friday night in Council Bluffs.
The Becky Martin Big Band plays at 7:30 at Iowa Western Community College. Martin’s Big Band shows combine several genres of music, including Latin music, which is how Martin got her start.
"I really love singing Latin music. I sing a lot of Celia Cruz Latin music, and that has such an energy to it that is contagious, so I really enjoy that. But I also love a gorgeous melody of a song like Stardust, just a classic American Songbook with a unique melody, something like Stardust or Angel Eyes."
Martin says her musical influences range from Frank Sinatra to 80s and 90s pop divas, such as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. She also names Ella Fitzgerald as an influence.
