Omaha Police release name of man injured in officer-involved shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police have released the name of a man shot by an officer in a western Omaha neighborhood.

He was identified as 28-year-old Oliver Halverson, who was taken to Creighton University Medical Center.

Police say the shooting occurred just after noon Wednesday. Officers had been sent to a home to check on a man reportedly armed with a knife and threatening suicide.

Officers found the man near 124th and Burt streets. Police say at least one officer fired after confronting the man. Police have not said whether the man was armed with a knife or any other weapon when the officer fired.

The name of the officer hasn't been released.
