NWS to Run Statewide Tornado Drills for IA, NE Wednesday

National Weather Service

This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, and the National Weather Service is marking the occasion with a statewide tornado drill test Wednesday morning from 10 to 11.  It will affect all counties in Iowa and Nebraska and the NWS says it’s a good opportunity for residents of both states to practice what they would need to do in the event of a real tornado.  The test will go out on television and radio stations but will not activate the Wireless Emergency Alert cell phone messaging system.  In the event of severe weather, NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Brian Smith says the test will be postponed until Thursday, March 28.  You can find more information about the statewide test here.
