One of the most significant releases of 2016 comes to us from Logan Richardson. "Shift" announces Richardson's dazzling saxophone artistry in no uncertain terms. He will be a force on the jazz scene for years to come, as the listener to the CD will quickly realize. Logan is joined by guitarist Pat Metheny, who is in the best form he has been in years, playing with refreshing aggressiveness which is a true highlight of this date. Also on board are Jason Moran on piano and fender rhodes, Harish Raghavan on bass, and Nasheet Waits on drums. It's a killer lineup which creates sensational music on 11 noteworthy tracks. "Creeper" is one of the gems of the session where the band is on fire. Other remarkable selections include "In Your Next Life" and "Locked Out of Heaven".
Logan Richardson grew up in Kansas City and was tutored by the legendary Ahamad Alaadeen, one of the finest saxophonists and bandleaders to ever emerge from the Kansas City area in the 20th Century. Richardson later attended the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts in the 1990s, and has since established an well-deserved reputation in Paris and New York. Richardson is also a member of the Next Collective. With "Shift" Richardson announces his intention to the world as a total professional ready to explore new directions in jazz.
