UNO political scientist expects GOP presidential race to remain close

A UNO political scientist expects all four GOP presidential candidates will stay in the race following Super Tuesday.

Results of the ten Super Tuesday primaries were split. In Ohio, GOP candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were locked in a close race. Santorum, Romney, and Newt Gingrich all picked up wins, and delegates.

UNO political science professor Paul Landow says if the GOP race continues to be close, states with later primaries, such as Nebraska, could have more relevance. “It just depends on where things stand. May is still quite a ways away, especially in political terms. And there’s a number of primaries between now and May.”

Landow says he expects Romney will get the needed delegates in the next two to three weeks. Nebraska’s primary election is May 15th.
