Omaha Ranks Third as Best City for Young Professionals

In a recent Forbes article, Omaha was ranked third in a list of America’s 15 Best Cities for Young Professionals.

Sarah Wernimont, Manager of Talent and Workforce at the Greater Omaha Chamber, says Forbes looked at several economic indicators when deciding which communities were the best place for young professionals.

Wernimont says these included cost of living, low unemployment rate and opportunities for young professionals to be able to grow in their careers.

She says another important factor in attracting and retaining young professionals is the city’s livability.

"Omaha is a great place. There’s a great arts and culture scene.  We are a foodie city with lots of restaurants and different types of cuisine.  We have different cultural festivals.  There are things to do here for everyone with different interests.”

Wernimont says Nebraska’s unemployment rate is just 4.1%. The city also has 1 large business to every 810 residents.

Additionally there are several Fortune 500 companies with headquarters here including Berkshire Hathaway and ConAgra Foods.

Des Moines, Iowa ranked number one on the list with Raleigh, North Carolina coming in second.
