Minecraft Camp comes to Do Space in January

Metropolitan Community College at Do Space will offer a one-day Minecraft camp for students ages 7-14, Tuesday, January 3rd from 9-3.

Chris Swanson, MCC at Do Space Coordinator, says the camp is available to both novices and experts.

Swanson says playing the game could be a gateway to bigger programming opportunities including kids making their own apps and video games.

Minecraft is a computer game where players use Legos to build a digital world.

Swanson says Minecraft is a way to open kids up to technology.

"Kids who get really excited about technology are playing Minecraft and asking questions and essentially developing their own digital world which is really just the gateway to bigger programming opportunities.  So you start with Minecraft and it’s a fun way of engaging with programming but there’s some really interesting next steps beyond Minecraft where you are developing your own apps, your own video games, your own computer program.”

Registration for Minecraft camp is $80 and lunch is included.  Robot workshops and drone workshops will also be offered over the winter break.
