Braley Faces Ernst for US Senator Tom Harkin's Seat

Democrat Congressman Bruce Braley currently represents Iowa’s first congressional district.

On November 4th he faces Republican challenger Joni Ernst in the general election as the two vie for US Senator Tom Harkin's seat.

Braley says he will continue his work on behalf of Iowa farmers, will work on ending the country’s dependence on foreign oil, instead promoting renewable energy including wind energy and keeping higher education affordable for everyone.

Braley says his number one priority is “creating jobs and encouraging economic growth.”

Ernst, a Lt. Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard, says some of the issues she is focused on include ensuring that Social Security and Medicare are “preserved and protected for our seniors of today and tomorrow,”  she advocates tax reform and replacing the Affordable Care Act with free-market alternatives, putting patients first.

If she wins, Ernst would be the first woman elected to the US Senate in Iowa.

The General Election takes place Tuesday, November 4th.  Polls in Iowa are open from 7-9.  For more information, the website is pottcounty.com.
