Public meeting Tuesday on plans for Omaha's Hanscom Park

A public meeting is set for this evening to discuss a master plan for Omaha’s oldest city park.

Tuesday's meeting about Hanscom Park is a follow-up to one in February. Park Planner Pat Slaven says they’ll present some ideas from the master plan, as well as Public Works’ plans for environmentally-friendly infrastructure as part of the CSO project.

Slaven says February’s meeting identified immediate needs for Hanscom Park.

"The playground has to be replaced. It’s over 25 years old and it doesn’t meet Americans with Disabilities standards, it doesn’t meet current play equipment codes. And so it’s really time to re-do that playground."

Slaven says other possible ideas for Hanscom Park are a small amphitheater, and pedestrian entrances and walkways. Right now there’s not a timeline or estimated cost for the Hanscom Park project, although Slaven says the playground could be done next year.

The public meeting begins at 6:30 at the Hanscom Park Pavilion.
