World Alzheimer's Month

This month is the 5th global World Alzheimer’s month, and September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Day.

Tim Connelly, franchise owner of Home Instead for Bellevue, Sarpy County and Council Bluffs, says organizations worldwide are hoping people will pledge to increase their understanding of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

He says the number of people with dementia is expected to nearly triple over the next three decades --  to 16 to 17 million.

“And right now we’re struggling with resources for families -- whether it be support systems or public programs – you can only imagine what that pressure of 16 million people with Alzheimer’s and all their families – what an impact that it going to have on all facets of a community.”

Connelly says Home Instead is offering two free afternoon webinars on the 21st -- one aimed at people with a family member with the disease and another at professional caregivers.

He says the webinars are free but preregistration is required.
