"Vision Beyond Sight Banquet" Rebooted, Still Raising Awareness in October-Donna Aman Explains

October is Blindness Awareness Month, and the nonprofit Outlook Enrichment typically has its biggest fundraising event of the year, the Vision Beyond Sight Banquet, to raise awareness during October of the capabilities of the visually impaired, as well as the needs of people affected by vision loss in our community. Since this is far from a typical year, Outlook Enrichment decided to cancel having a large group gathering and is instead going to celebrate Blindness Awareness Month in a new way.

Donna Aman, the Executive Director of Outlook Enrichment had a socially distanced chat with Mike Hogan of “Live & Local” to explain the Dessert in the Dark To-Go event, in partnership with The Omaha Bakery.

From Oct. 1 through Oct. 28, Outlook Enrichment supporters can order their Dessert in the Dark experience kit from The Omaha Bakery (for pickup Nov. 4 or 5), which in addition to a delicious treat, will come with a sleep shade and discussion guide to create a unique experience and conversation about vision loss in which participants will learn more about how to empower and advocate for our neighbors who are blind and visually impaired.

In addition to Dessert in the Dark, Outlook Enrichment will also host two Happy Hour in the Dark events on Oct. 22 and 23, each starting at 5:30 p.m. at its headquarters located at 4125 S. 72nd St . Attendees will meet people affected by vision loss and hear their incredible stories of personal success. In addition to wine and hors d’oeuvres, attendees will be treated to adaptive technology demonstrations, and special musical entertainment also will be part of the event. Social distancing measures will be practiced.
