The Learning Community has launched a new website for 2012-2013 Open Enrollment

Omaha, NE – The Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties was created in 2007 by the legislature.

Lorraine Chang, Vice Chair of the Learning Community Coordinating Council, says the Learning Community consists of eleven school districts. She says the Learning Community consists of students from all walks of life; all of whom are worthy of the best possible education. With that in mind, the Learning Community is offering open enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year.

Chang says open enrollment is designed to increase academic achievement, promote socio-economic diversity and ensure equitable resources are available to all districts to support the needs of their kids. This year, the Learning Community has a new website that parents may use to apply.

"We're very encouraged by the traffic that we are seeing. It's very convenient and easy for any family to go to the website, explore what their options are, different schools, different districts, understanding what transportation they might be eligible for as well as to easily download an application for open enrollment."

The Learning Community is partnering with the public libraries across the eleven districts to be sure that families without computer access have a free place to get materials and find out about open enrollment. The deadline for open enrollment is March 15th, 2012.

The website is learningcommunityds.org.
