Kids Count in Nebraska 2011 Report Highlights Importance of Early Childhood

Omaha, NE – Voices for Children in Nebraska has released its Kids Count in Nebraska 2011 Report.

Research Coordinator Melissa Breazile says the report focuses on the importance of investing in early childhood. She says the report is broken down into four key areas: health, education, safety and economic stability. Positive findings include an increase in the graduation rate and a decrease in the number of children living outside of their homes.

But among the report's concerning findings are the increase in the rate of childhood poverty. Breazile says the report is meant to help state agency representatives, supporters and legislators.

"We hope that they are able to use this report as a tool to help make sound decisions about policies that will affect children in a positive way, to better identify what some of the issues might be and where resources are needed."
