Sen. Nelson visits Egypt, Saudi Arabia

Sen. Ben Nelson, D-NE

Nebraska’s senior U.S. Senator says Saudi Arabian officials have expressed interest in forming a partnership to address violence in Syria.

The U.S. and several other nations expelled Syrian diplomats Tuesday following the killings of 108 people, including 49 children, in Syria on Friday. Senator Ben Nelson is in Saudi Arabia meeting with King Abdullah and business leaders there. Nelson says Saudi officials want to be part of a group of nations that addresses the ongoing violence in Syria.

Nelson says business leaders in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia he spoke with are also concerned about the reputation of the Middle East and how Friday's massacre will impact their economy.

He also met with officials in Egypt following that country’s elections. Nelson says he doesn't believe there was fraud committed in the Egyptian election process, and the nation's election was free and open.
