OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Ben Sasse is handily winning the fundraising game in the Republican primary race for Nebraska's open U.S. Senate seat.
Sasse, president of Midland University and former undersecretary of health and human services under President George W. Bush, raised more than $850,000 in this year's first quarter. That's about $240,000 more than former state treasurer Shane Osborn's $611,000 raised in the three-month period that ended March 31st.
At a campaign rally on Tuesday, Osborn acknowledged he is being outraised, but said the race "won't be won with money."
Sasse says his fundraising reflects Nebraskans' approval of his conservatism and platform to repealing President Barack Obama's health care law.
Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale and Omaha attorney Bart McLeay are also seeking the Republican nomination. They had not released first-quarter fundraising numbers Friday.
