Early voting reaching near-record numbers in Douglas and Sarpy Counties

Early voting is going strong in Douglas and Sarpy Counties with three weeks until Election Day.

Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says 60,000 people voted early in 2008, between mail-in and in-person votes. Phipps says early voting has grown in popularity this election year, with 56,000 people requesting ballots via mail and another 4,000 voting in-person.

Sarpy County Election Commissioner Wayne Bena says 17,500 people have already voted early. 20,000 voted early in 2008. Bena credits the increase in part to all Sarpy County voters receiving an early voting ballot application along with their new voter registration cards. He says early voting is also convenient for people who might not be able to make it to their polling place on Election Day.

If you still want to vote early, you can do so by requesting a ballot be mailed to you. You can also vote in-person at your local Election Commission office.
