Pandemic Shifts OPD's Priorities

The coronavirus pandemic is impacting the Omaha Police Department's workload.  Authorities say the number of disturbances and domestic violence calls have increased slightly over the last two weeks.  Child abuse calls have decreased by 25-percent, which police say is due in part to schools being closed. The OPD is also issuing citations to those who do not obey the mayor's decision to close Omaha's public parks. Mayor Jean Stothert  officially closed the parks April 8th with barricades and signs posted the following day in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the area. The police department says they issued nearly 20-citations for trespassing over the weekend at several city parks.
