David Koesters

Producer / Host

David started in broadcasting at his hometown radio station in Holdrege, Nebraska while still in high school. He went on to earn journalism and law degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and has worked for a number of radio and television stations around the United States. He is a big advocate for community media and loves being a part of the local fabric of NPR. He also has a cat.

You can hear David weekday evenings on KIOS, as well as his weekly segments highlighting the library, local history, and local community organizations during Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

  • Heat the Streets is an annual run and walk fundraiser hosted by the Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District. Proceeds benefit local utility assistance programs to help friends, family, and neighbors in our communities pay their utility bills.
  • A small string or wind ensemble from the Omaha Symphony will perform music chosen around a theme at various branches of the Omaha Public Library throughout the month. Performances will be followed by an opportunity for participants and musicians to reflect on and discuss our shared experience. Plus, Erin Duer tells us about the book Open Throat by Henry Hoke.
  • Nebraska Cures supports health science research through community education, student and professional awards, and professional development for STEM professionals. Nebraska Women in STEM's mission is to provide opportunities for Nebraska’s professional women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to develop professionally, make connections, and promote policies that increase the number of women in STEM.
  • Celebrate Genealogy Week with the Omaha Public Library. It kicks off with an in-person program sharing the real-life stories of the Orphan Trains on Sunday, March 3rd, from 2-3:15pm at the Genealogy & Local History Room at 3020 S. 84th St. in Omaha. There will also be open-house genealogical activities and displays throughout the week, culminating in National Genealogy Day on March 9. Also, Courtney Kilroy tell us about the book A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers.
  • Foster Love's mission is to provide basic needs and opportunities for children and families impacted by foster care so they feel confident, empowered, and valued.
  • Join fellow book lovers for OPL’s Virtual Book Bash. Attendees will hear about new and exciting books from library staff, have a chance to win bookish prizes, and get to chat virtually with fellow book lovers. Also, Jessica drops in to talk about the book What the Dead Know by Barbara Butcher.
  • We learn about the mystery behind the sailing stones of Death Valley.
  • We learn about the College Admissions Test Preparation resource. A free online resource where students can take practice college entrance exams, do interactive tutorials, and get eBooks from the LearningExpress Library to help you prepare for college success. We also hear from Jessica who tells us about the book Wayward by Dana Spiotta.
  • We visit a Seed Share event at the University of Nebraska Douglas-Sarpy County Extension Office at 8015 W Center Road. Learn about what the Nebraska Extension Office does and what they can do for you.
  • Join Omaha Symphony musician Kasumi Leonard as she plays her flute during a storytime reading of Chickadee, Criminal Mastermind by Monica Silvie. Also, Angela Fernandez tells us about the book Congratulations, the Best is Over! by R. Eric Thomas.
