OPS, Douglas County bond issues on November ballot

The Omaha Public Schools and Douglas County both have bond initiatives on the November fourth ballot.

Voters in the Omaha Public Schools district will decide on a $421 million ballot initiative. The bond would fund fire, life safety, and technology upgrades; capital improvements and renovations; and buying land for future new schools.

The largest part of the bond issue is $259.7 million for capital improvements and renovations, including the replacement of four elementary schools.

Douglas County voters will decide on a $25 million bond issue for public safety upgrades. If it’s approved, the bond will pay for equipment, renovations, additions, and other needs.

It’ll also fund facilities for the County Treasurer and Department of Environmental Services offices in the former Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans Home at 156th Street and West Maple Road.
