LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A southeast Nebraska candidate for the Legislature says he's paid the back taxes his construction company owed.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Republican Bob Tiemann had previously said he didn't owe the federal government. But Tiemann told the newspaper on Monday that the Internal Revenue Service provided him new information last week that convinced him his company was in arrears. Tiemann says he paid nearly $17,000 for unpaid withholding taxes owed by R.L. Tiemann Construction from tax years 2012 and 2006.
The IRS had filed a tax lien against the company with the Gage County Register of Deeds on September 30th, listing the unpaid taxes.
Tiemann's opponent for the District 30 seat, Roy Baker of Lincoln, says the tax lien is something voters should consider.
