Congressional, Senate, Governor's races before voters in Nebraska and Iowa

Douglas County’s Election Commissioner predicts 46 percent turnout in today’s general election.

Polls are open in Nebraska from 8 am to 8 pm, and in Iowa from 7 am to 9 pm. Congressional, Senate, and Governor’s races are on the ballot in both states. Nebraska voters will decide if the state’s minimum wage will be raised. Douglas County and Omaha voters will decide on several bond issues.

Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says early voting was strong this year, with 42,000 Douglas County voters requesting ballots.

"Early voting continues to grow as a program. Once people do it I think they like it, I think they’ll do it again, and I think more and more people are going to continue to do that in the future."

Phipps says there’s more interest in this year’s election because of the races on the ballot. Voter turnout four years ago was 40 percent. Eight years ago, it was 49 percent.
