Lincoln Unveils Steps to Curb Gun Violence

Sep 27, 2019

(Lincoln, NE)  --  Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird has announced measures to curb gun violence in Lincoln that won praise from both sides of the gun control debate.  The plans include more public education programs about gun safety and a gun lock giveaway to anyone applying for state handgun permits in Lancaster County.  A gun control group says another step the city council needs to consider is locking up firearms when stored in a home.

(Lincoln, NE)  --  An internal investigation is being conducted after a man found a loaded gun in the Nebraska State Office Building yesterday.  Nebraska State Patrol and Capitol Security Detail secured the handgun once they were notified by the worker at the Department of Revenue.  It is said to have been left in a restroom for as long as an hour by a Department of Agriculture investigator.  Officials say NDA investigators have guns because they are appointed as deputy state sheriffs.  Workers at the building said they were worried that anyone could have gained access to a weapon.

A South High Magnet student was arrested for carrying a handgun on Tuesday.  An email that went out to families of students stated that a student reported that another student may have had a weapon on the school campus.
