Nearly 50 Nebraska school boards have objected to proposed state health education standards that include lessons for young children on gender identity and gender expression. State Sen. Joni Albrecht said 47 school boards across the state have either adopted resolutions or sent letters opposing the first draft of the standards that the Nebraska Department of Education is considering. Under the proposed standards, elementary students would learn about different kinds of family structures, including same-gender families, and gender identity.

School Official To Run For Legislature

(Omaha, NE)  --  The president of the Omaha Public Schools board is planning to run for the Nebraska Legislature.  Marque Snow announced his plans yesterday.  The Democrat is running for the District Nine seat currently held by State Senator Sara Howard, who is term-limited. 

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha Public School’s Board of Education voted 6-2 to accept a bus contract bid with Student Transportation of America Monday night.  The bid was estimated at $20,612,726.83, and the contract would be between August 2019 and August 2023 with two one-year contract extensions built in.

The board listened to a presentation detailing the bids and looking at numbers from STA and another company, First Student. First Student, though, put an estimated bid that was about $5.4 million more expensive.

OPS moves toward strategic planning process

Nine Omaha Public School board members will be sworn in Monday evening, along with two new Omaha City Council representatives and the city's first woman Mayor.
